Who We Are

Cumbria Gateway is an award winning, progressive and innovative Social Enterprise. We provide user-led, peer-to-peer and person-centred health and social care services within the substance and alcohol misuse field. The project has evolved primarily as a response to gaps in service delivery and now we enjoy a positive reputation for effective and flexible service. The project currently delivers a range of service provision.

  • We deliver specialist alcohol and drug recovery services around aftercare
  • We deliver recovery day programmes
  • We provide supported housing to people that have a range of multiple issues
  • We provide a handy man service to older people in our community, helping them remain independent
  • We deliver a user-led drop-in breakfast club works directly with the most difficult and hard-to-engage clients
  • We provide a you choose service – the aim to reach people in the Carlisle District, who are living independently or in the process of becoming more independent where a package of individual support would enhance their quality of life
Cumbria Gateway is a company limited by guarantee (not for profit), however, based on our aims and objectives, our business model is a social enterprise. The project’s income is derived from a mix of grants, contracts and charitable donations from both the statutory and non-statutory sectors. This diversity provides a degree of a financial security for the organisation. The project offers specific expertise in aftercare services, evidenced by our current delivery of structured Recovery Day Programmes in Carlisle. Our programmes are a unique departure from traditional clinical treatment services, where therapy is directed at self-discovery through a collaborative peer-led approach.

Past clients have defined our service as:

innovative and challenging

and client feedback on the outcomes and benefits include;

It’s given me my life back”,

It made me think, opened my mind, and question my life”,
